Who are we?
Örebro Rättighetscenter is a religiously and politically independent association which runs an antidiscrimination agency. We work for equal rights and against discrimination by:
- Providing free legal advice and assistance to people who feel discriminated or treated unfairly. We are bound to secrecy and are not subject to the principle of public access to official records.
- Spreading information and educate on discrimination and the discrimination legislation both to those who risk being discriminated as to those at risk being responsible to it.
- Awakening public opinion on issues of discrimination.
The Discrimination Act
Our work is primarily based on the Discrimination Act. The Discrimination Act protects you from being discriminated at work, at school, at stores and when you buy or rent an apartment. The law also applies on a number of other important areas of society, such as health care, social services and social security.
The Discrimination Act prohibits discrimination, harassment and reprisals. Anyone who is responsible for discrimination may be liable to pay compensation. There are seven grounds of discrimination protected by the discrimination law:
- Ethnicity
- Religion or belief
- Disability
- Gender
- Gender identity or gender expression
- Sexual orientation
- Age
